Hello, and welcome to my website! My name is David Procida, and I live just south of Riverside, California, with my six amazing Frisbee dogs and a promising young McNab pup named Sundance, who is showing incredible natural talent in canine agility.
I’ve been passionate about Disc Dogging—or Dog Frisbee—for over a decade, and I teach it to dogs and their owners. Over the past two years, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching more than 200 students and their canine companions. My classes focus on not only improving Frisbee skills but also strengthening the bond between dog and handler through this fun and engaging sport.
My Disc Dog Team
I’ve had the privilege of competing with a variety of canine athletes over the years, each with their own unique personalities and talents. Let me introduce you to the stars of my team:
Ace of Hearts
Ace is my three-year-old tri-red and white Australian Shepherd, and he’s a crowd favorite. This big, happy guy isn’t just a Frisbee dog—he’s a showboat who loves to leap high into the air, especially when there’s an audience watching! Ace has even appeared on ABC Channel 7 News, showing off his Canine Freestyle skills (yes, “Doggie Dancing” is part of his repertoire!). His charisma has landed him a future spot on the cover of a popular brand of dog food, and his playful antics and love for Frisbee make him the clown of our group.
Dillon
Dillon is my handsome Blue Merle Australian Shepherd. He’s a bit of a wildcard—sometimes he’s all about Frisbee, and sometimes he just wants to chill. But whether he’s catching discs or lounging around, what matters most is that Dillon is having fun. He came to us as a rescue, and we’re still figuring out who’s training who! Regardless, he’s a wonderful companion and brings joy to every competition we enter.
Tazzie
Tazzie, our Australian Cattledog, is the boss of the bunch. At six years old, she’s the smallest in size but definitely the alpha of the group. Tazzie loves to help out with new students, and she’s been known to compete with kids or anyone willing to throw for her. Many of my students have had the opportunity to compete with Tazzie, and they always enjoy her energy and enthusiasm. If you’ve ever seen the “Sears Picture Book” commercials on TV, you’ve probably caught a glimpse of her in action!
Maverick
Maverick is a two-year-old McNab, and if you’re unfamiliar with the breed, you’re not alone. McNabs have a long history on the West Coast, particularly in California, and Maverick is a proud representative of that heritage. He’s been competing in Canine Frisbee since he was just four months old! In 2007, Maverick took home First Place Overall in the Expert Class Time Trial at the Skyhoundz Regional. He’s also won the USDDN Open Freestyle Class at the Wags for Wishes competition. Maverick is a media star, having been featured twice in the Orange County Register and in a Time-Warner “On-Demand” special about our Disc Dog class. His absolute favorite thing? Performing for kids—he thrives in front of young audiences.
Sundance
Sundance is our young McNab pup, full of potential and energy. While he’s still learning the ropes in Frisbee, he’s already showing amazing natural ability in Canine Agility. We’re excited to see how far he’ll go, both in Disc Dogging and other canine sports.
Murray (aka “Dizzy Dog”)
Our newest addition is Murray, a big (50+ pounds!) red-and-white Border Collie/McNab mix who joined our family after his previous owner passed away. Murray came to us with a background in agility and obedience, but he quickly discovered a love for Frisbee. He consistently makes impressive catches in the 35-45 yard range, and 2008 will mark his first year in competition. We’re excited to see how “Dizzy Dog” progresses, and we’ll keep you updated on his journey.
Competing in Disc Dog Events
I’ve been competing in Disc Dog events for nearly 10 years, and it’s been an incredibly rewarding experience. From local tournaments to regional championships like the Skyhoundz events, my dogs and I have participated in numerous competitions. One of my proudest moments was Maverick’s victory in the Expert Class at the 2007 Skyhoundz Regional, where his speed, agility, and sheer love for the sport helped us win first place.
Beyond competition, I love teaching the sport to others. Over the last few years, I’ve had the pleasure of sharing my knowledge with hundreds of dog owners through classes that focus on both the technical aspects of disc throwing and the teamwork required to succeed in the sport. It’s been incredible to watch students and their dogs grow together and find joy in Disc Dogging.
Join Us in the World of Disc Dogging
If you’re interested in learning more about Disc Dogging, whether for competition or just for fun, I encourage you to give it a try. It’s a fantastic way to bond with your dog, keep them active, and tap into their natural instincts. Whether your dog is a seasoned athlete or just starting out, there’s a place for everyone in this sport.
Stay tuned for updates on Murray’s first year of competition, as well as more exciting news from our Disc Dog adventures. If you’re in the Riverside area and interested in taking classes, feel free to reach out—I’d love to help you and your dog discover the joy of Frisbee together!
