Maverick launching up to catch the Frisbee
at the 2007 Regional Skyhoundz Event
Hi there!
Welcome to my website, My name is David Procida, I live just south of Riverside California with my pack of high drive Herding dogs. I teach Disc Dogging also known as, Dog Frisbee. I've been an avid Disc Dog Competitor for the better part of 11-years and over the last three years have had over 250 students and their Canine Companions enrolled in my Dog Frisbee classes.
When I'm not teaching, you'll find me out competing in a local Skyhoundz, UFO events and/or doing Frisbee Demonstrations for local Animal Shelters Adoption Fairs/Events. Another huge chunk of my time is dedicated to working with my "Herding Dog specific" Rescue organization.
Any time left over after that is dediated to working on our Agility Course. Sundance, a one year old McNab and my only "non-Frisbee" dog is a natural at Agility, he's been in training since he was 6-months old, won't be old enough to compete for another six months (18-months old in the minimum age requirement), but look out! This guy's not only "super-fast" but can change direction on a dime and give you 9-cents change! When he's not ripping around the course, he's looking for sheep to herd, which he's quite good at also.

When competing in frisbee, I have a variety of canine competitors to choose from, the first one being my big happy three-year old tri-red and white Australian Shepherd named “Ace of Hearts”, You might have seen Ace last year on the ABC Channel 7 News doing a Canine Freestyle (“Doggie Dancing”) routine, Ace has also had his picture taken for a future cover on a bag of a popular brand of dog food. He loves to play Frisbee and is quite the clown, but also a showboat, displaying his leaping ability whenever he’s in front of a crowd.
Sundance today, he finally grew into those ears!

Below is Dillon, a big happy Blue-Merle Australian Shepherd. He's my "sometimes" Frisbee Dog, As in "sometimes he wants to, sometimes he doesn't" as long as he's having fun, that's all that matters! Dillon came to us as a Rescue in need of training, we're still not sure who's training who!

Tazzie is our 6-yr old Australian Cattledog, one of two girls in our pack, who also happens to be the Alpha dog out of our whole group. She's our "loaner" who enjoys competing with kids, newbees and just about whoever will throw for her. Several of my students have enjoyed competing with her. If you watched the "Sears Picture Book" television comercials closely you've probably seen her!

And then there's Maverick, a 2-year old McNab (did I hear you say "McNab?" Never heard of them? Look under the McNab Shepherd x 3 (three different but the same history lessons) Maverick has had his picture in the Orange County Register twice and stole the show in a Time-Warner "On-Demand" TV special featuring our Disc Dog Class.
After a 2007 Skyhoundz Regional where Maverick placed “First Overall” in the Time Trial Expert Class Competition, winning the 2007 USDDN Open Freestyle Class at the Wags for Wishes Competition. After almost a year off from Competition, Maverick is back! He decided he didn't want to be just my valuable assistant in my Disc Dog training classes, but a top competitior. In his first competition of 2009 Maverick and I finished third Open, barely missing second by .4 points! Our next event was in Cypress and this time we did finish in second! We've been practicing more than once a week now and it's beginning to pay off. He hasn't given up on activites outside of the competion ring and last July, the Orange County Register showed up to do an article on the Frisbee Fun for Fido class, Maverick was featured in a photo spread that covered over half a page! But, Maverick’s biggest love? He absolutely shines when performing for an audience of kids.

2008 Update! Well, we decided to add two more fur-kids to the family, the first, Murray, a beautiful red & white four-year old Border Collie/McNab who came to us after his person passed away in late December. Murray had recieved a little training in Agility, but has since discovered playing with a Frisbee. He has shown a lot of enthusiasm and drive, consistantly making catches in the 40-to-50-yard range. This will be his first year of competition so we'll keep you updated on his progress!

And almost last but not in any way least, meet Calamity Jane, a beautiful 16-month old black-tri Australian Cattledog who lives up to her name. She has already shown us she really wants to be a competitior, she has been catching a full size disc all four feel off the ground in the air and tries to grab the boys bigger Frisbees at every given chance. She will be competing with the big boys this year and we hope to have her up to speed by mid-year!
